Meet Yonah Mudibo, a Data Science with AI for Beginners bootcamp learner who came to the program as a visual artist. Yonah is known for murals, body art, and string art installations across Kenya. Data science is new territory. For his project, Yonah built a spam text classifier that tested multiple ML models against each other to find the best one for the job. He used TF-IDF vectorization to convert raw messages into weighted features, then compared Decision Trees, Logistic Regression, and Random Forest. Logistic Regression won out after hyperparameter tuning. What made the submission stand out beyond the final model was the process. Yonah documented why he chose TF-IDF over simpler vectorizers, explained what each model got right and wrong, and made a recommendation for what to try next.
