Last month Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar Instruction and Outreach Librarian Reya Saliba, PhD received the American Library Association's 2026 Library of the Future Award for AI²@CMU-Q, an innovative program that helps students navigate the intersection of artificial intelligence and academic integrity. Yesterday, Saliba presented the award-winning initiative to fellow librarians at Hunt Library on CMU's Pittsburgh campus, sharing how a simple traffic-light framework for AI use, paired with a week of campus-wide programming, helped students better understand when and how to use AI responsibly in their academic work. Developed through collaboration among the CMU-Q Library, faculty, Student Affairs, Student Majlis, and the AI Working Group, AI²@CMU-Q has become a model for how libraries can lead conversations around emerging technologies. Congratulations to Reya on this well-deserved recognition and for advancing the role of libraries in shaping the future of learning.
