Week's highlight is K-pop, J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue and Dante’s Divine Comedy put in a single song. Yes, really. MEOVV’s 2nd EP “Bite Now” was released on Monday, and I heard the title track “DDI RO RI” day before in a lo-fi YouTube video. I thought it’s a joke. But it wasn’t. “DDI RO RI” starts with genuinely Johann Sebastian Bach’s classical music piece from 1707. It is also used in the chorus throughout the song. The Dante interpretation is not an official one, but see it for yourself. Video takes place in a medieval town with floors. There is a donkey which is mentioned several times in Divine Comedy. Red devils dance with the group in the end. The video is like Botticelli’s 1480s famous painting – that one which is discussed in Dan Brown’s book Inferno, and in the film based on it. Grammy Award winner Teddy Park himself is credited in the song. Teddy founded MEOVV’s record label THEBLACKLABEL, and he is behind most Blackpink hits from his time at YG ENTERTAINMENT. Really courageous choice by both the group and label, a classical music pop version can go horribly wrong. Ella even had a part in Star Trek Picard opposite Sir Patrick Stewart. But she has her phaser always set on stunning anyway...#kpop #music #MEOVV #THEBLACKLABEL #books #marketing #socialmedia #korea
