And who better to start us off than our fantastic Managing Director; Kathy Bird. Kathy is originally from New Zealand but her charming accent isn't the only thing she brings to the team. Read more about what she does in this short interview! Tell us about your job role and the kind of projects you work on: As Managing Director of an agency, my role touches all aspects of the business. My job is to ensure the strategic objectives for the company are met. No day is the same for me and I love being involved with initial client discovery meetings to developing plans to meet strategic goals. Tell us about your journey of how you got where you are today: I started studying marketing which led me to a job in that field, I always enjoyed the creative part of any role. After working for a University for ten years, I took voluntary redundancy and applied for Agency positions. I wanted to ensure creativity was at the heart of my career. Have there been any obstacles holding you back on this journey? How did you get around them? My brain doesn’t recognise obstacles, only challenges. Being a woman in the creative sector I am passionate about supporting and encouraging diversity in this sector. Lack of experience can be an initial barrier, but being able to demonstrate you have the transferable skills to take on new challenges is very rewarding. What was your favourite project from over the last year and why? It is so hard to choose, but I would have to say my favourite project from this year has been working with Barnet Council on their new recruitment film for Social Workers. These roles are so critical to our society and to have a passion for improving the lives of young people in a community is admirable. What advice would you give to someone looking to follow in your footsteps? Find yourself a mentor in the industry you are passionate about. Advice and support can be so beneficial, giving you the confidence to take steps which further your career.
