Incredibly excited about the International Communication Association #ica25 conference with some really great examples of our teams’ work on the program 👏🏼 On Saturday (900) Zilin Lin will present work with Gabriela Trogrlić Natali Helberger and me from the AI, Media and Democracy Lab on Dutch language models - and harmful representations in them. Also at 9 Eliza Mitova presents work on public attitudes towards generative AI from four countries. This work was part of a great study w Sina Blassnig Edina Strikovic Dr. Aleksandra Urman Aniko Hannak Frank Esser and myself. At 1030 Alon Zoizner will present a conjoint experiment unveiling if AI can challenge partisan news selection. Really neat study (not biased 😉 ) with Jorg Matthes Nicoleta Corbu Karolina Koc-Michalska Christian Schemer Yannis Theocharis Jan Zilinsky and 🙋 On Sunday I am part of the 1030 “Generative AI transforming or disrupting communication scholarship” panel. One of the 75th anniversary sessions organised by Noshir Contractor At 1330 Patrick van Erkel presents the hot titled paper ‘The Hostile Misinformation Effect’ with Michael Hameleers Marina Tulin Aqsa Farooq Elske van den Hoogen and me. At 1500 Jin Wan was slotted for her PhD work on political efficacy and news recommeder systems. But visa issues are real… At the same time Ernesto de León will present fresh insights from our large scale AlgoSoc data donation study done with Fabio Votta Bella Struminskaya Theo Araujo and the awesome Centerdata panel partners Stein Jongerius and Joris Mulder. On Monday 900 Teresa Elena Weikmann rocks with work on countering AI generated visual misinformation, part of our BENEDMO work with Marina Tulin Michael Hameleers. At noon two sessions are scheduled. One with Xiaotong Chu and her dissertation work on over time effects of political (mis)targeting (with Rens Vliegenthart Lukas Otto Sophie Lecheler and Sanne Kruikemeier) and at the same time Fabio Votta unpacks the role of ad delibery algorithms for political advertising. A major group effort smoothly led by Fabio! A lot to be excited about. Such talented early career scholars. Such wonderful colleagues. In addition there are editorial board meetings, fellows meeting, awards ceremony and presidential address by Silvio Waisbord, project meetings, social events, and last but not least #runningwithpresidents. Go #ica25 🚀
