3️⃣ stop in my journey: United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Congress in #Tangier, #Morocco 🇲🇦 This conference gathered thousands of mayors, regional leaders, and civil society partners under the theme “New generation of universal local public services” 🌐 UCLG is a city network that is mainly used for advocacy at the global level as ‘the voice of cities’, so this space provides a good insight into the topics that are currently most relevant for cities and the narratives around them. Here is my new blog with my thoughts on the congress: https://lnkd.in/evDaNpxn I write about the two observations that I encountered, opposing and in parallel: 👉  On one hand, I found precipices between the narratives and actions needed for #ecosocial #transition and the conversations at this congress still linking #EconomicGrowth with "Sustainable" #Development. I found precipices in terms of the interactions, sustainability, and narratives. 👉  On the other hand, I also found bridges across those precipices that provide hope. For example, there was a congruent unison call for #municipalization and #democratization of #PublicServices, a different lens and attitude towards #PublicHousing –finally acknowledged as a #HumanRight and not as a profit-making commodity– and the importance of human rights in The City. 🟰The result: a mix of a critical perspectice on the congress itself and traditonal narratives of the public sector, with a hopeful vision on how we can harness those bridges to advance eco-social transitions.
