Part-time teaching opportunities Civitas: Institute for the Study of Civil Society has run an outstanding network of after-school classes and Saturday schools in London since 2005 - providing charitably funded very low-cost English and maths lessons to children who will benefit from extra educational support, but who do not have access to expensive private tuition. Located in the heart of communities with dedicated teachers, excellent resources, and small class sizes, children’s learning thrives in a Civitas Schools environment. We are looking for new teachers for school year 2025/26, starting this September 2025. A professional teaching qualification isn’t required - we value excellence in subject knowledge over formal training - but some experience of tuition would be an advantage. You would be teaching a small group of pupils, aged 7-11, at one of our London schools, supporting them to overcome the hurdles in their learning, and helping them to catch-up after two years of huge disruption to their education and lives. We group children by educational attainment rather than age, allowing each pupil to work at their appropriate level. We provide at least one teacher for every 10 children and a support teacher for those who require more intense support. We provide teacher-led learning, using traditional methods. We aim to create a stimulating learning environment which engages children’s minds, and we prioritise quality over quantity of teaching. The role of repetition in our teaching is central, allowing pupils the time to really grasp new ideas and concepts before being challenged to move on. Training will be given, and you will be working in a small classroom environment with other teachers around you to offer help and support. ————————————————————— Salary description We pay £18-£20 per hour during a one-term probation period, and then £20-£28 per hour after probation (subject to role), plus 12.05% holiday pay and a Nest workplace pension (subject to meeting contributions criteria).
