What can one patient teach researchers about fighting brain cancer? Nearly a decade ago, Dr. Christine Brown and her team at City of Hope treated a patient with glioblastoma after every standard option had failed. They re‑engineered his own immune cells to fight the cancer, and tried something new: delivering those cells into spinal fluid rather than directly into the tumor. The approach worked. His tumors disappeared. Although the cancer eventually returned, what his case revealed about how the immune system behaves in the brain has shaped years of CAR T‑cell research, and continues to inform new clinical trials opening at City of Hope today. Tune in to On the Edge of Breakthrough: Voices of Cancer Research to hear Dr. Brown share what this patient changed for the field.
