For this week’s #ThrowbackThursday, the City of Hays looks back at a landmark of local history and community care: the old St. Anthony Hospital. Initially founded by the Sisters of St. Agnes, the hospital was a cornerstone of regional healthcare for generations. In 1991, St. Anthony merged with Hadley Regional Medical Center to form what we know today as HaysMed, continuing a long tradition of medical progressivism in Western Kansas. While operations eventually transitioned to a new campus, local architectural preservation saved a piece of this history. Part of the original 1931 red-brick structure remains structurally intact and serves an entirely new corporate purpose today. Do you recognize the remaining structure? Share your guesses regarding its current location and use in the comments, along with any professional or personal memories of the old hospital. #HaysKS #EconomicDevelopment #LocalHistory #HistoricPreservation #Community
