Not to be dramatic… but there’s a lot happening in Armadale this May. Like, a surprising amount! The Armadale Arts Festival is back and it’s packed. You’ve got the Minnawarra Art Awards anchoring things - a full exhibition of WA artists taking over the Hall. It’s one of those exhibitions where you walk in thinking you’ll have a quick look and end up doing a full lap… and then another. Then there’s Art on the Scarp, which is probably one of the coolest things in the program. It’s art, but not in a gallery. It’s out in the bush, built into the landscape, and you come across pieces as you walk. It feels a bit unexpected, in a good way. Added bonus - it is family friendly. We’re also launching Armadale Idol this year, which is exactly what it sounds like. Local people getting up on stage, having a go, and seeing what happens. There’s something about that kind of energy that always pulls a crowd. And then layered through all of that - live music, comedy nights, workshops, smaller pop-up things happening across venues. The kind of stuff you can plan around… or just wander into. That’s probably the best part of it - you can go in with a plan. Or you can just turn up and see where you end up. Either way, there’s a lot of talent behind it. A lot of local artists, performers and community groups doing really good things, and this is where it all comes together. If you’re around in May, come and have a look. Or a wander. Or just a coffee and one thing that turns into three. Come see us guuuuys!
