🎉 Congratulations to City Bureau civic reporting alumni Justin Agrelo and Nicole Jeanine Johnson, MS.Ed on joining the Ida B. Wells Society's 2026 Class of the Data Institute! As a 2020–21 Civic Reporting Resident, Justin covered housing, eviction, and development in Chicago, producing stories on tenant rights and community-led responses to the city's housing crisis. During her Fall 2023 Civic Reporting Fellowship, Nicole reported on equitable development in Bronzeville, examining how historic Black neighborhoods can balance investment with protecting longtime residents from displacement. We're so excited to see these community-centered journalists continue building new data skills to strengthen their reporting!
