Cirrus Therapeutics is taking a broader approach to address chronic blinding diseases, building a pipeline designed to address dry AMD at multiple stages. Launched this year, the newest addition to our pipeline is a next-generation RPE cell therapy for patients with advanced dry AMD, where vision loss has already progressed and cannot be recovered with current treatments. In geographic atrophy, key retinal support cells called retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) are lost. When that happens, the photoreceptors they support begin to fail, putting central vision at risk. Existing therapies may help slow progression, but they do not replace those lost cells or restore the underlying retinal support system. Cirrus is developing an RPE cell therapy designed to do more. The program is built to function in the inflamed, metabolically stressed environment of advanced disease, with the goals of: * restoring support for vulnerable photoreceptors * preserving or improving central vision. * moving beyond slowing damage toward meaningful visual benefit. Together with our IRAK-M gene therapy program, this second approach reflects Cirrus’ broader strategy: to build treatments across the full dry AMD spectrum, from earlier intervention through to vision restoration in later-stage disease.
