Over the past two days, we have been in Hungary visiting key infrastructure delivered under the Danube InGrid HU/SK Project, supported by #EU #CEFEnergy. Our programme included several upgraded substations across the distribution network, including Szombathely, Zalaszentgrót, Lepsény, Várpalota, Zirc and Veszprémvarsány, as well as modernised high-voltage lines and advanced grid equipment such as on-load tap changer transformers. These investments enable distribution system operators to digitalise network management, improve voltage control, increase operational flexibility and integrate growing shares of renewable electricity into the grid while maintaining security of supply. By combining upgraded infrastructure with smart grid technologies, #DanubeInGrid is contributing to a more resilient, efficient and future-ready electricity network capable of supporting Europe's clean energy transition. And the visit culminated in the commissioning ceremony of the new Répcelak substation, delivered by E.ON Hungária Csoport. The event brought together national and local authorities, project partners and stakeholders to celebrate an important milestone for the project and the modernisation of the region's power system. As highlighted by the CINEA representative Ona Kostinaitė-Grinkevičienė during the ceremony: "When people look at a substation, they usually just see steel, cables and some equipment. The real value however is elsewhere. It is in allowing everyone to enjoy electricity as a basic necessity."
