Abel S. Fenta completed his PhD in Engineering Physics within the CICECO, following a Master’s degree at the University of Aveiro, under the supervision of Professor Vítor Amaral. His doctoral investigation combined Perturbed Angular Correlation nuclear spectroscopy with Density Functional Theory simulations to study graphene, with most experimental work carried out at CERN, where the necessary nuclear isotopes were produced. The PhD also included a joint doctoral programme with KU Leuven, benefiting from close scientific interaction with CICECO and the Departamento de Física da Universidade de Aveiro, and contributing to the development of robust technical and analytical competences. After concluding his PhD, Abel Fenta pursued a career in the industrial sector in Switzerland, working in areas such as power generation, energy storage, high-technology industries, and metrology. He is currently involved in the development of thermal energy and fluid flow measurement systems Sontex SA, while maintaining collaboration with CICECO as an external collaborator. His trajectory illustrates the transfer of advanced competences from fundamental investigation to industry.
