Global Head of Industry at Drees & Sommer | Enabling Zero Carbon

Back in Duisburg! A place that stands like few others for the history of the German steel industry. 🛠️    And for me, it marks something more personal. This year, it has been 20 years since I first came here in a professional context. My entry point into industry: site selection, project management and permitting for a greenfield steel plant in the US.    What followed was a journey across industries. From steel to automotive, caravans and cable manufacturing, to battery cell production, semiconductors and high-tech environments. Different sectors, different technologies, but always the same core: enabling industrial value creation under complex conditions.    Over that time, we have seen profound shifts: The financial crisis in 2008, structural disruptions in automotive, multiple waves of economic and technological change.  Each of them reshaping industries in fundamental ways.    What stands out is not only the pressure these moments created, but how industry responded. With adaptability, with creativity and ultimately with innovation and new business models. 🔀    That is why being back here today, contributing to the transformation of thyssenkrupp Steel towards green steel, feels particularly meaningful. Because it reinforces a conviction I have built over the past 20 years: We have the capability, the ingenuity and the determination in Germany and Europe not only to navigate transformation, but to emerge stronger from it.    And beyond all the transformation, the former headquarter building still stands out!  A quiet reminder of the history that continues to shape this place. ⏳    #Dreso #GreenSteel #ThyssenKrupp
