We are not solving climate change. All we can do now is work to avoid its worst effects. Is this the end of optimism? In this week’s episode of #InsideCOP on Outrage + Optimism we had a candid conversation about the latest NDCs - the national climate action plans submitted by each country - not going far enough to close the gap to 1.5°C. Does this mean the end of optimism? Absolutely not. The stubborn optimism I often speak about is not blind hope that things will somehow be fine. It is a clear-eyed recognition of reality - however bleak - that chooses optimism as an input, precisely because of the seriousness of the situation, not in spite of it. While acknowledging the failures of national politics, we also keep our eyes on progress. In the real economy, solutions are scaling fast, with businesses, investors, cities, and civil society leading the charge on transformation. That is the opportunity of COP30: to align political ambition with the extraordinary action already unfolding on the ground. Listen here: https://tr.ee/InsideCOP P.s. I’m interested to hear, does ‘stubborn optimism’ resonate with you at this moment? Tom Rivett-Carnac Paul Dickinson, Fiona McRaith Thais Bilenky Ana Toni Simon Stiell COP30 Brazil UN Climate Change
