🇪🇺 At European Parliament, CSI speaks about Christians in Iraq 🇮🇶 Christian Solidarity International has briefed members of the European Parliament on the existential threats facing Iraq's Christian population. The Christian population in Iraq has plummeted from 1.5 million in 2003 to an estimated 500,000 today. Joel Veldkamp, Director for Public Advocacy at CSI, called on European leaders to take a stand and use their diplomatic might with the Iraqi and Kurdish governments to enforce Christian property rights, safeguard church autonomy, and protect minority representation. Pascale Warda, the former Iraqi minister for refugees and migration, and the founder of the Hammurabi Human Rights Organization, also briefed the EU Parliament. Her team has been collaborating with CSI in Iraq on humanitarian projects for many years. The brief exposed how minority families face systematic land confiscations, regional power struggles, and state-sanctioned forced conversions under discriminatory national laws.
