Remote NDT Specialist | EN 4179 Level 3 | Reducing Aircraft Downtime & AOG Costs for Airlines & MROs
After publishing my previous article about the aviation maintenance workforce gap, I received valuable feedback from several professionals across the industry. This encouraged me to look deeper into the topic and speak with senior maintenance leaders from airlines and MRO organizations about their current experience and expectations for the future. One message was very consistent: The challenge is no longer only finding people. It is maintaining experience, competence, and knowledge. The shortage of qualified maintenance professionals is already influencing recruitment, operational planning, cost structures, and long-term resilience. In my latest LinkedIn article, I have summarized the key themes that emerged from these discussions: - The shortage goes beyond licensed mechanics - Experience takes years to build - Training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer are becoming critical - Digitalization can support—but not replace—qualified professionals I would like to thank all industry leaders who shared their insights and contributed to a better understanding of this important challenge. I would also be interested in hearing your perspective: How is the aviation maintenance workforce situation affecting your organization today? #Aviation #AircraftMaintenance #MRO #NDT #AviationSafety #Engineering #WorkforceDevelopment
