While I appreciate the enthusiasm and acknowledge the technical expertise of those discussing AI in the Public Sector, it's important to address a critical issue. Having participated in panels, hosted seminars, and created outcomes for the public good through AI, I understand the potential. However, we—suppliers and the public sector alike—must take a step back to establish the fundamentals: security, privacy, and governance of data and AI. This is not about mere compliance; it's about implementing genuine, robust data security measures. If we fail to prioritise this, all the discussions, panels, and hackathons surrounding AI risk becoming mere posturing.
