The Heidelberg Materials cement plant in Brevik, Norway is probably the world's most important carbon capture installation. Having promised to capture 400,000 tonnes in its first year of operation (just ended), European news reports say that Brevik seems to have only achieved about 105,000 tonnes. Another apparent failure of CCS to deliver on its very expensive promises. Heidelberg Materials is receiving subsidies of perhaps £500m to build a similar plant at a cement works in North Wales but has failed to explain why its Brevik installation has severely underperformed.
