A nice way to wrap up the week before the holiday break here in New Zealand: optimising point-in-polygon queries for a large coordinate dataset. After exploring several Python-based optimisations, including custom spatial gridding, moving the computational core into a multi-threaded Go shared library delivered a clean speedup.
