#BIRTH_OF_KARL_LANDSTEINER ✨ "It is not a disease that clumps the blood, but a natural physiological difference between individuals."✨ 🪄Have you ever thought how we learned about blood groups A, B, and O? How safe blood transfusion, modern surgery, blood banks, and ICUs became possible? The scientist who started that revolution is whom we remember today: the great scientist Karl Landsteiner. 1️⃣4️⃣ Today, 14 June 2026, we commemorate the 158th birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, the father of modern transfusion medicine, Nobel laureate physician and pathologist. 💠Birth and childhood:: He was born on 14 June 1868 in Vienna, Austria, into a Jewish family. His father was Leopold Landsteiner and his mother was Fanny Hess. 🏫 Education : In 1885, he enrolled in medical studies at the University of Vienna and received his MD in 1891. 👤Career : In 1896, he began working at the Vienna Institute of Hygiene as an assistant to Max Von Gruber. He later worked at the Pathological-Anatomical Institute of the University of Vienna and performed thousands of autopsies. From 1908 to 1918, he served as chief pathologist at the Wilhelminenspital. In 1922, he joined the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. 🩸Contributions to humanity : 💉Discovery of the ABO blood groups (1901) 💉Discovery of the Rh factor (1940) 💉Important contributions to the pathology of syphilis 📜 Notable publications : ♻️Uber das Verhalten von Zusätzen zu Blutserum, 1891 ♻️Uber Agglutinationserscheinungen normalen menschlichen Blutes, 1901 ♻️Uber Poliomyelitis acuta, 1909 ♻️The Specificity of Serological Reactions, 1933 🏆 Honors and awards : 🥇 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (1930) 🥇 Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (1911) 🥇 Aronson Prize (1926) 🥇 Cameron Prize (1937) ⚡Why was his discovery revolutionary? Before the discovery of the ABO blood groups, blood transfusion was extremely risky. Because compatibility was unknown, many patients died. His research made safe blood transfusion, modern surgery and emergency medicine possible. 💡 Interesting fact : In 1900, he discovered the ABO blood groups by testing his own blood and the blood of five colleagues. His birthday, 14 June, is celebrated worldwide as World Blood Donor Day. 🪦Death : On 24 June 1943, he suffered a heart attack while working and died on 26 June in New York at the age of 75. 🍂 Karl Landsteiner’s extraordinary contributions to the welfare of humanity are forever remembered. On his birthday we, the Chittagong University Scientific Society (CUSS), remembering him with deep respect. #KARL_LANDSTEINER #Birthday #Scientist
