This is an SBM (Single Buoy Mooring) in action. An SBM is a floating offshore loading system that allows tankers to safely load or discharge crude oil and petroleum products without coming alongside a terminal or jetty. The tanker moors to the buoy, while subsea pipelines and floating hoses handle the transfer of hydrocarbons. Why SBMs matter: •They enable safe offshore loading in deep or open waters. • Reduce congestion at onshore terminals. • Minimize environmental risk when properly operated. • Allow continuous operations even where ports are limited.
