INAUTHENTIC TRANSPARENCY After viewing Steven Spielberg's fictional film DISCLOSURE DAY, I'm stunned to see a news photo of a veiled and guarded public treasure in our nation's capital. The subject is the reflecting pond, the setting for Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech, now on official lock down with law enforcement surveillance. Some visitors, according to news reports, have been arrested for tipping a hand into the water. It seems ironic that the closure comes at the same time America celebrates our nation's 250th birthday, a time where we rejoice in freedom and hope for the future. But DISCLOSURE DAY, a science fiction film, deals with decades of government cover-ups to keep the public in the dark. Essentially, it is the long-awaited follow-up to Spielberg's brilliant film CLOSE ENCOUNTERS. Yet the comparison between the Trump administration's tizzy about the reflecting pond and Spielberg's movie share a similar message: people aren't trusted to be near a situation gone wrong and must be treated as children It does make one wonder if life imitates art or vice versa.
