Sounds harmless, right? But that phrase has caused more cost overruns than almost anything else. In traditional industries, yeah, past experience helps. But in new industries like green hydrogen, chemical recycling, biobased stuff, carbon capture, it can actually be dangerous. Most of these aren’t “repeat” projects. They’re first-of-a-kind (FOAK). But too often, people still pull out old reference designs, old assumptions, and just copy-paste what worked before. And then what happens? - Wrong equipment - Utilities that don’t match reality - Operability issues - Major redesigns mid-EPC - Delays during commissioning A project might look 80% the same as something else. But that last 20%? That’s usually what kills it.......
