After nearly 15 years at the helm of one of the world's most valuable companies, Apple CEO Tim Cook is stepping down. Apple announced today that Cook will officially hand over the chief executive role to John Ternus, the company's Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering, effective September 1, 2026. Cook, 65, will not be leaving Apple entirely. He will transition into the role of Executive Chairman of the Board, where he will continue to assist with areas including global policy engagement. The transition was unanimously approved by Apple's Board of Directors and is described as the result of a long-term succession planning process. Cook took over from the late Steve Jobs in 2011 and leaves behind a remarkable legacy. Under his leadership, Apple's market value grew from roughly $350 billion to approximately $4 trillion, a rise of more than 1,700%. He oversaw the launch of landmark products including the Apple Watch and AirPods, and dramatically expanded the company's services business. Ternus, who has been at Apple for over 25 years, is a trained engineer and has been widely regarded as the top candidate for the role. #apple #ceo
