There’s a new #hydrogen guy in town 🇫🇷⚡ At yesterday’s Industrial Summit in Antwerp, President Emmanuel Macron gave an answer on hydrogen that deserves attention far beyond the room. In the video we are publishing, he demonstrates something rare at head-of-state level: a precise understanding of how hydrogen is currently defined in Europe — and why those definitions have become part of the problem. 🔍 He openly acknowledged that some of the technical classifications were politically driven. ⚙️ He questioned whether overly complex definitions are now slowing down the very scale-up they were meant to guide. 🚧 And he made clear that regulatory rigidity risks undermining the momentum of the hydrogen economy. This matters. Hydrogen is not just another file in the energy debate. It is central to industrial competitiveness, decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors, and Europe’s strategic autonomy. When a President engages at that level of detail — and signals that these issues should be addressed at the Competitiveness Summit — it sends a strong message: Regulation must enable scale, not prevent it. 🇫🇷 Macron positions himself here not only as France’s President, but as a European actor thinking beyond mandates — linking hydrogen directly to competitiveness and long-term industrial strength. And yes, one could say with a smile: 💬 There’s a new hydrogen guy in town. France has the industrial base, the nuclear backbone, the infrastructure and the political ambition to play a decisive role in correcting over-regulation and restoring technological pragmatism. Europe needs clarity. Europe needs speed. Europe needs leadership that understands the technical files. This intervention shows that hydrogen is no longer a niche topic — it is at the centre of Europe’s competitiveness debate. 🎥 Watch the video. It’s worth it.
