This is Robert Atkinson AKA (Rob, Bob, Bobbie, Bwwoiybeee - roommate 🇺🇸 flatmate 🇬🇧, a best mate, best man (one of four - Brothers Three, you know who you are), and “cousin-in-law”) and I enjoying a game of High Stakes Tennis. Summer 2000. 21 yrs ago. High Stakes because these courts were off limits to public due to the presence of blow holes beyond the base line, erosion from the Hudson River. (2 or 3 courts end on end on a disused jetty) with the Twin Towers as a backdrop. We’d monitor security guards & Jersey City PD movements then scale the high fencing into the locked courts for a game of tennis, while dodging the blow holes that had the river lapping immediately below, while backs were turned. Sometimes we’d get a couple of sets in. Sometimes we’d get busted after a few short rallies. Sometimes caught shuffling suspiciously down the sidewalk in the courts direction with tennis kit blatantly on display. Cat n Mouse. Cops n Volley(ers). Yes, we lost a few balls down the blow holes and scraped our shins/thighs on the high railings. But, hey this was “high-stakes” tennis. We had fun. We created lifelong memories and we lived to tell the tale. With the lower Manhattan skyline and the Sunday cruise ships, sometimes the QE2 gliding, majestically by 🛳😍 Happy Skyscraper Day Charlie ( 𝑎 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑡𝑦 𝑔𝑒𝑒𝑘) (Yes, the one in the H@@ters cap.
