💻 “I have been studying since the age of 25 and almost every year since then with the odd year or two off and I am almost 50.” For Charles Sturt University Alumni Cath, education has been a constant alongside life’s many chapters. After climbing the corporate ladder, she found herself enjoying her time coaching netball and helping people, she decided to pivot her career. At 36, Cath made the decision to pursue teaching, completing her degree in 2016 and transitioning into the classroom in 2019. Her journey reflects resilience at every stage. While studying, Cath was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and later, melanoma. She continued her studies alongside treatment and life’s responsibilities. “Teaching was the first career I decided to enter for myself. 🧡 “All my tertiary studies have been with Charles Sturt. They were one of the first universities to do online learning and do it well. I needed to study part-time and remotely so this allowed me to continue to work, raise my daughter and study.” ➡️ Returning to study later in life meant navigating new challenges. “Teaching was foreign to me. It has been 20 years since I left high school… I had no real-life experiences to draw on. “I was using parts of my brain that I had not used in a long time. I have since discovered it’s important to know how you learn, your mind is a powerful tool, and you need to harness it correctly, for you can do whatever you put your mind to.” For now, Cath’s happy to be teaching, and to take a well-deserved break from study.
