Yesterday we held a Sustainability Event at Neath Port Talbot College, bringing together industry leaders to explore how sustainability is being put into action across The Welsh Steel industry, wonderfully opened by Mark Dacey. With contributions from leading voices in sustainability, Eoin Bailey FRSA (7 Steel), Nicola Jones (Tata Steel) and Simon Nurse (Capital Coated Steel), the session focused on the role of steel, circular economy thinking and practical delivery on the ground. A few key takeaways: 🌎 Sustainability is moving from ambition to action - this is now about delivery, not strategy. 🌎 Steel remains central to Wales’ economy - by mid morning, you have likely interacted with steel around 100 times. With electric arc furnace technology set to reduce emissions at Port Talbot by up to 90 percent, the scale of change is significant. 🌎 Circular economy requires earlier collaboration. While we are getting better at measuring sustainability, we are not always as strong at valuing circularity. Moving from a linear to a circular model will require earlier engagement across supply chains. 🌎 Sustainability delivers commercially. Capital Coated Steel’s biodiversity and wellbeing garden is not only supporting employees and biodiversity, but also strengthening their position in international supply chains. A big thank you to our Chambers partner, Grŵp Colegau NPTC Group of Colleges, for hosting and helping shape such a valuable and practical discussion. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #NetZero
