Good news everybody! This autumn the first book from our project will be published by CHRONOS: "Das Digitale Grafitti". In the book René Bauer and Beat Suter examine the works of a young cracker and demo scene from the 1980s and 1990s as eponymous digital graffiti. "It is a book that explores questions such as: What do crackers, demosceners and game designers have in common with their practices of cracking, crack intros and demos, and with analogue graffiti artists? Is it just about the visuals? About illegal practices? What brings them together and what keeps them apart? How do crackers and demosceners view the unrest of the 1980s? Are they part of it, or the opposite? One thing is certain: they were all tinkering and empowering themselves for their own future during the years of ‘Züri brännt’ and the old Stadtgärtnerei in Basel.
