CERN bids to host the Tour de France A stage of the 2029 Tour de France could take place in the Pays de Gex and the canton of Geneva, with the start line in front of the Science Gateway CERN and the local authorities in its two Host States have applied to host a stage of the Tour de France in 2029, the year of CERN’s 75th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the invention of the World Wide Web. The bid is being submitted by CERN in association with the Etat de Genève, Département de l'Ain, Pays de Gex agglo and Commune de Meyrin. CERN Director-General Mark Thomson signed the official application letter, together with Thierry Apothéloz (State Councillor of the Canton of Geneva), Damien Baptiste BOCCARD (Administrative Councillor of Meyrin), Jean DEGUERRY (President of the Département de l’Ain) and Patrice Dunand (President of the Communauté d’agglomération du Pays de Gex).
