⚠️ Gene-Edited Foods Could Be Hitting Shelves Without Labels On June 4, FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand) approved Proposal P1055. This decision could allow certain gene-edited foods to enter New Zealand and Australian food supply without labelling, traceability, or safety checks – if they don’t contain “novel DNA”. These foods are still the result of genetic engineering, just no longer legally classified as “genetically modified” under the new definition. It is concerning that this is being pushed through without proper public oversight. ❌ No labels (for many gene-edited foods) ⚠️ No safety testing (if no novel DNA is present) 🛑 No consumer choice Organic and GE-free producers like us will carry the burden. This isn’t happening in isolation, it’s part of a bigger strategy to push GE into our food system, fast. We’re calling on Ministers to: • Pause Proposal P1055 • Reinstate full labelling + traceability • Require proper impact analysis You deserve to know what’s in your food!
