First stop on Josh's Spring New York Greenhouse Tour: Birdsfoot Farm in St. James, New York. Birdsfoot Farm is a CSA operation within Avalon Nature Preserve, and Farm Manager Ryan Lertora was kind enough to walk us through how the Ceres greenhouse we designed for the farm has become an integral part of his production workflow. In this video, Ryan shares the two core functions his greenhouse serves: growing starts for the outdoor fields — extending his season and giving crops the strongest possible start before they go in the ground — and drying allium vegetables like onions and garlic. It's a straightforward use case, but it's a great illustration of how the right greenhouse design can quietly do a lot of heavy lifting for a working farm operation.
