How can we seamlessly integrate emerging technologies into existing workflows within Europe's creative and cultural sector? Over the past three years, researchers from CWI's Distributed & Interactive Systems Group (DIS) | Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) have collaborated closely with creative practitioners within the EU-funded TRANSMIXR project. Together, they have designed and validated a modular, open-source platform that brings Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Extended Reality (XR) directly into the creative lifecycle for the performing arts, cultural heritage, and news media. Rather than viewing these technologies as disruptive threats, the project focuses on structural adaptation—ensuring that creators can naturally evolve alongside the tools they use.   The resulting platform provides a scalable infrastructure for everything from initial media processing to immersive final audience experiences—demonstrating how human-centric design can ease the transition into next-generation digital media.
