Join us and become a leader of the future!
Ever wondered how big capital, infrastructure investments, and soft power shape politics in the Horn of Africa? π Join us on June 8th for a seminar titled: "The relationship between international capital, statehood, and decolonisation processes in the Horn of Africa". This is a great opportunity to look at the region from three distinct research perspectives: historical-financial, hard security, and educational. π‘ Our speakers will be: β’ Dr. Luca Puddu (University of Palermo) β who will discuss the historical role of road infrastructure (focusing on the UK's actions in Ethiopia) and decolonization. β’ Dr. MichaΕ Lipa (Jagiellonian University) β who will analyze the Horn of Africa as an emerging transregional security nexus and the geopolitical use of infrastructure. β’ Dr. Agata Karbowska (Jagiellonian University) β who will share insights from her fieldwork in Ethiopia on Turkey's use of education as a soft power tool. Instead of lengthy lectures, we are keeping it brief and to the point β expect 20-minute presentations followed by a solid Q&A and discussion. β’ When: June 8 (Monday), 13:00β14:30 β’ Where: Room 08, Faculty of International and Political Studies JU (4 Reymonta St.) β’ For whom: Open to all interested students and staff. See you there! π The event has been supported by a grant from the Faculty of International and Political Studies under the Strategic Programme Excellence Initiative at Jagiellonian University. #cisad #isad #irpub
