Today, the Lions Eye Donation Service (LEDS) celebrated its 4th year partnering with the Victorian branch of Blood Bikes Australia – helping deliver donor eye tissue to where it's needed most. 🏥🏍️ Blood Bikes are a group of volunteer motorcyclists who transport blood, donor tissue and medical supplies, free of charge, to help free up time and funds for health services. Their collaboration with LEDS has led to the Blood Bikes supporting the wider eye, tissue and organ community across Victoria and eye services into WA and SA. Since 2022, Blood bikers have completed 803 runs for LEDS – covering over 20,000km to 38 different surgical facilities across Victoria. The true amount of kms travelled is actually much, much more, since some of the Blood Bikers have to travel quite a way to get to LEDS in East Melbourne. So far this year, they’ve already completed 130 runs, covering over 3500 kms. 2025 had the most deliveries, at 235 runs, covering close to 5000km! Thanks everyone who came along to our morning tea and especially the Blood Bikers (Peter Davis) for helping us every day in our sight-saving work! Image 1: The Blood Bikes, LEDS and DonateLife teams.
