🦮 On International Guide Dogs Day, we’re recognising the vital role guide dogs play in supporting the independence and choice for people who are blind or have low vision. Last week, Head of the Lions Eye Donation Service (LEDS) Dr Heather Machin, RN, MBA, PhD had the pleasure of seeing this impact first-hand when she took part in the Guide Dogs Victoria Community Fair. 🦮 Heather was invited to read her children’s book ‘Grandad’s Last Wish’ and was thrilled to share the story of eye donation with families and other guests. While admitting she was competing with puppies for attention, the reading was warmly received! Afterward, Heather had the chance to meet guide dog ambassadors and new recruits, and learn more about how Guide Dogs Victoria and other organisations are supporting the confidence and agency of blind and vision impaired people across Victoria and beyond.
