Public trust depends on letting evidence lead. After two Idaho toddlers died last year, claims circulated that routine childhood vaccinations were responsible. Following a lengthy investigation, a grand jury has now indicted the children's mother on two counts of first-degree murder. Whatever the outcome of the criminal case, it's a reminder that extraordinary claims shouldn't outrun the evidence. Premature conclusion can distract from understanding what really happened.
