How do you shape the future of an airport before it becomes reality? Together with Prof. Dr. Michael Schultz and his team at the Universität der Bundeswehr München, we are developing a digital twin of Köln Bonn Airport. What does it mean: Our airport is virtually mapped and continuously synchronized with current operating data. Movements, processes and dependencies are not only made visible, but also simulated realistically in all their complexity. The example in the attached video: Based on current data, the digital image of the airport is constantly updated and the simulated airport processes are adjusted. The added value for our airport: ➡️ Better decision-making based on reliable data ➡️ Early detection of bottlenecks and interactions ➡️ Realistic testing of scenarios before they become operational The concept marks an important step in connecting aviation, research and operational practice. In my role as a guest lecturer (chair for aviation concepts), we also enrich each other with insights into aviation and the goal of driving progress in air transport together. For me personally, this special collaboration is therefore much more than just new technology.
