Maria Rescigno New Director of CeMM The entire CeMM community and Austrian Academy of Sciences - Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften (ÖAW) President Heinz Faßmann warmly welcome Maria Rescigno as the new Director of CeMM. Maria is a highly accomplished researcher specialized in the understanding of the gut–liver–brain axis and its related disorders. Maria Rescigno is Full Professor at Humanitas University, where she has been Vice Rector for Research as well as Deputy Scientific Director and Group Leader at Humanitas Research Hospital, in Milan. She held positions in Cambridge, UK and Oslo. Maria Rescigno authored more than 250 publications in high impact journals and her research has been funded by prestigious ERC grants. She is elected EMBO Member, from 2024 chair of the EMBO Council, and a member of the Italian Academy of Science (Accademia dei Lincei). Maria Rescigno has received several awards and her entrepreneurial strengths are evidenced by patents, and Postbiotica, a microbiota-based start-up. Maria Rescigno will lead CeMM as Scientific Director, alongside Anita Ender, Administrative Director of CeMM and AITHYRA. Maria follows Giulio Superti-Furga, Founding Director of CeMM and Professor of Systems Biology at the Medical University of Vienna, who is currently involved in establishing a new center for biomedical research and biotechnology in Sicily. He will remain affiliated with the institute and as a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
