🔔 #ArticleOfTheMonth Transport Is More Than a Logistics Step. Cryopreservation remains the gold standard for storing and transporting cell therapies. As the field continues to evolve, however, it is worth taking a closer look at both its advantages and its limitations. In their 2025 review published in Molecular Therapy: Methods & Clinical Development, John Gostage, Ruth E. Levey, and colleagues from the University of Galway examine the biological and logistical challenges associated with cryopreservation. The authors also discuss the conditions that would need to be met for ambient transport to become a viable alternative for certain cell therapy applications. One key takeaway is that transport is far more than a logistical consideration. The conditions cells experience between manufacturing and administration can directly influence their quality and therapeutic performance. For those working across cell and gene therapy, biomanufacturing, and clinical logistics, the review reinforces an important point: preserving cells means preserving function. If storage and transport conditions can shape the final product, they deserve the same level of attention as every other step in the manufacturing process. Levey, and the entire team at the University of Galway (REMEDI) on this valuable contribution to the field. #CellTherapy #Cryopreservation #CellAndGeneTherapy #Biomanufacturing #AdvancedTherapies #LifeScience
