While peptides and analogues tend to be cleaved readily by proteases, modifications of peptide drugs during manufacturing may increase their stability and prolong their half-life – thus enabling oral administration and reduced dosing frequency. Moreover, such modifications may alter the types of clinical pharmacology studies required for their development.
