On July 1, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Since its founding in 1946, CDC has led efforts to combat infectious diseases, strengthen emergency preparedness, prevent chronic disease and respond to some of the world's most pressing public health challenges. Over the past eight decades, CDC has helped eradicate smallpox and dramatically reduced polio around the world, helped eliminate malaria here in the United States and led responses to emerging health threats nationally and abroad. For 80 years, CDC’s public health professionals and partners have worked tirelessly to save lives, prevent illness and build healthier communities. As we celebrate this anniversary, we recognize CDC’s legacy of advancing health, safety and well-being for everyone.
