We are pleased to announce the appointment of Fergus Bailie as Senior Council Chair of the CBI Chairs’ Committee, our top policy-mandating body. In this role, Fergus will lead the Committee that brings together senior business leaders from across the UK to shape and steer the CBI’s policy agenda, as well as holding an ex officio position on the CBI Board. His two-year term will run until Q2 2028. Fergus is Chief Executive Officer of the Bailie Group, a Yorkshire-based, family-owned SME investment company, where he has led the business since 2017, overseeing its strategic direction, governance and long-term growth. A Chartered Accountant with a law degree from Durham University, he has a background in audit and M&A at PwC and experience building strong, independent governance structures across a diversified portfolio of businesses. Fergus brings a deep understanding of how effective leadership can drive sustainable growth. Alongside his executive role, Fergus serves as Chair of CBI Yorkshire & the Humber and has long supported enterprise and skills, including as a mentor with The King’s Trust. His appointment reflects the strength and breadth of CBI membership and reinforces our role as the voice of business across every region and sector of the UK economy. Beckie Hart
