The debate is no longer whether we transition to a low-carbon economy – it's how quickly and effectively we can deliver it. London Climate Action Week once again demonstrated the scale of ambition, expertise and collaboration needed to accelerate emissions reduction while strengthening competitiveness, growth and energy security. At a pivotal moment for the UK's clean energy transition, the week brought together businesses, policymakers, investors and civil society to share solutions, showcase progress and explore how we unlock the economic opportunities that decarbonisation presents. The CBI was proud to contribute throughout the week: ✅ Our CEO Rain Newton-Smith joined the Clean Air Fund and the Climate & Clean Air Coalition to discuss the health and economic benefits of climate action, highlighting how reducing emissions can improve both public health and productivity. ✅ We co-hosted the London Climate Action Week Business Reception alongside the REA , the University of Cambridge, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), UK Finance, the British Chambers of Commerce and Madano. Featuring remarks from Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, and His Excellency Osman Koray Ertas, Turkish Ambassador to the United Kingdom, the event brought together leaders from across business, government and academia to discuss the role of business in delivering the UK's clean energy transition and supporting the Turkish Presidency's Action Agenda for COP31. ✅ Rain also delivered the opening keynote at the University of Exeter Climate Forum, focusing on the economic opportunities of the transition and the importance of defending the science, maintaining momentum and working together to overcome shared challenges at a time when consensus can too often feel fragmented. A clear message emerged throughout the week: the transition is underway. The challenge now is turning ambition into action. The real test is our willingness to tackle the difficult issues; on costs, infrastructure, skills and delivery and to do so at the pace the moment demands. The CBI stands ready to work with business and the government to make the UK a global leader in the clean energy transition. Tania Kumar Tia Magrath Jonathan Oxley
