Last Friday marked the end of my 13-week internship with OCBC under the FRANKpreneurship program. As FRANKies we were attached to our respective business units for 4 days a week, with the remaining day dedicated to a group project where we got to practice our entrepreneurship skills by ideating innovative yet practical solutions for the bank. I was with OCBC's Global Consumer Financial Services division in the Finance BP&A unit where I performed my BAU duties. The vocational knowledge that I picked up during my past internship with SGX Group helped greatly in my work and I was able to adapt to the new environment with relative ease. Special thanks to my mentor Shibin Lim for creating so many opportunities for me to learn and for always patiently explaining my duties to me. As someone keen on FP&A as a career, this attachment provided me with an invaluable experience that I will be carrying along to my next internship and beyond that. Besides that, I was extremely blessed to have such great teammates Harry Chow Keith Goh Kevin Yok Sarah Teo and Hui Ting, and a mentor Zhiwei Luke Li who made this 13-weeks so entertaining and enjoyable. The topic this year was "Banking and Finance in the next 10 years" and our group developed a solution and an entire business model revolving around biometric palm payments. I have created DCF models amongst many others for stock pitches and case competitions but this always revolved around analyzing a company's existing business model. This project was especially fun and challenging as within the short 13 weeks, our group developed our own business model and I used the various methods to project the ROI for our proposal. I guess this is what entrepreneurship is and I finally understand how challenging but thrilling and fulfilling this can be. This internship really forced me to step out of my comfort zone every day with the endless number of pitch decks and presentations I had to make. Nonetheless, I think this experience was very much needed at this point of my journey. The past 13 weeks went by so fast and I learned so much, but most importantly, gained so many new friendships. To my CFS Finance colleagues, I hope to see you again in the future (disclaimer: all disclaimers made were entirely factual). And to my other fellow FRANKies, I will certainly miss our weekly Friday QP and breakfast/tea breaks. This was and truly is not your average internship.
