Catholic Theological Union has lost one of its founding voices, and the Church has lost one of its most distinguished theologians of Christian-Jewish relations. Fr. John T. Pawlikowski was a member of CTU's founding faculty, helping shape the school's identity and mission from its earliest years. Over nearly five decades, he formed generations of students and religious leaders, and became a global leader in interreligious dialogue and Catholic-Jewish relations in the spirit of Nostra Aetate. Through his scholarship and leadership, including with the International Council of Christians and Jews and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, he helped shape the Church's modern understanding of Judaism, human dignity, and justice. His legacy is one of dialogue, reconciliation, and peace. We extend our deepest condolences to the Servite Order, his family and friends, his students and colleagues, and all who were shaped by his ministry and scholarship. We give thanks for his life and witness. May he rest in the peace of Christ, and may his memory be a blessing. Pictured: Rabbi Yehiel E. Poupko (left) and Fr. John T. Pawlikowski (right)
