At Catholic Relief Services, we know that in fragile and conflict-affected settings, lasting progress doesn’t come from programs alone—it comes from people. From communities leading. From partnerships that endure. This week at The World Bank Group/International Monetary Fund Spring Meetings, during the Global IDA Forum, we’re proud to bring that perspective to global leaders reflecting on IDA20 and the road ahead. Because the reality is clear: extreme poverty is increasingly concentrated in fragile and conflict-affected contexts—and meeting this moment requires approaches that are as adaptive, locally rooted, and resilient as the communities themselves. With more than 80 years of experience and partnerships that reach deep into communities, CRS supports over 140 million people in fragile settings—working side by side with local organizations to deliver not just immediate relief, but long-term pathways to stability and opportunity. We see every day that partnership is not optional—it’s essential. IDA20’s progress shows what’s possible when governments, multilateral institutions, and civil society work together. And we’ve seen it firsthand in places like Sudan, where collaboration alongside the World Bank, the UN, and other civil society organizations through the Thabat project is helping communities recover from conflict, restore basic services, strengthen food systems, and rebuild with dignity. But we also know more is needed. Local organizations and communities bring the insight, trust, and staying power required to navigate complexity and scale impact. Investing in that leadership isn’t just effective—it’s the foundation of lasting change. As we look ahead to IDA21 and the World Bank’s evolving FCV strategy, CRS remains committed to deepening these partnerships—bringing together global resources and local leadership to meet today’s challenges and build a more resilient future. As Pope Leo XIV reminds us: “To proclaim the Gospel in word and deed is to give new voice to hope.” Together, we move that hope forward. #WBGMeetings
