Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Office and Civil Service Chief Operating Officer

On Thursday, it was a privilege to welcome over 200 Senior Civil Service colleagues to our Cabinet Office leadership conference. Reflecting on the fantastic work happening across the Cabinet Office was inspiring. My core message to our leaders was one of confidence - in our work, our talented teams, and our ability to act as a single, cohesive engine room to deliver for the public. My three key takeaways from the day were: 1. Collaboration: Our impact is multiplied when we collaborate across boundaries rather than working within them. 2. Empowerment: Leadership isn't about always having all the answers; it’s about building a culture where our teams feel safe to challenge the status quo. 3. Innovation: Whether it’s AI integration, data-driven policy, crisis preparedness, or communications that connect with citizens across the country, our innovation is shaping the future of the UK Civil Service. A huge thank you to our fantastic organisers, and to everyone who participated and shared their challenges and successes. I left the day with great pride in our teams and our organisation.
